New look on the Bloggity Blog!

Hey guys! I figured it was time to spruce this thing up a little- I made a new header, I updated my gallery section, and I changed the background into a nice, clean white. It makes my artwork pop much better and it just looks nicer:) So, yeah! I think that means I better start blogging more…

Have a great end-of-the-weekend!

4-20 Illustration Friday: Heights

Well, hello there! Long time no see! This spring has been crazy busy, I apologize for the lack of actual posts around here lately. All I have had time for is Pinterest, lol! But I promise, I’m working on it as we speak… Anyways, here is an Illustration Friday entry for this week’s topic: “Heights”. So without further delay, here is my piece! I decided I haven’t drawn giraffes in awhile, and they are definitely tall. Also, this spring’s “color blocking” trend is pretty cool, so I wanted to play around with that. AND I needed to test my “pixelated” look some more, so…

Illustration Friday - 4/20/12: "Heights"

There you go, then! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do:)

UPDATES

Hey friends! I am currently making some site updates that will probably mess the site up for a week or so. Just wanted to make sure no one freaks out, hehe- it’s not an April Fool’s joke or anything, I promise;) Hope you will bear with me as the end results will hopefully be super awesome…

Paws for Half-Time

Because I can’t draw cute animals in place of actual human models in my design sketches at work, I have been going through a “cute deficiency” these days, bahaha! So, to practice more dynamic posing, lighting, and character design, I decided to make myself a basketball-playing cat. Enjoy.

Pay if Forward 2012!

Hello and happy Wednesday! Guess what? I started another new project for 2012, which I was inspired to do from a friend’s status on Facebook. Here it is:
“Pay it forward 2012. I will make something homemade for the first 5 people who comment. They must in return post this and make something for the first 5 people who comment on their status. The rules are that it must be something made by you and must be received before 2012 ends.”
Yeah! This is great because I can share my talent with others and hopefully they will do the same- if all goes well, a lot of people will get cool homemade things this year!:)
The takers on my post are:
Mary Ashmore
Jem Jensen
Missy Dale

I only got 3 people to sign up, but more are welcome to join in whenever… Anyone?…Bueller?

Random Thursday Sketches!

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first week of “Random Sketch Thursday”! I thought it was time to start something like this up again, so here is an easy one to start us off with:) I am a sucker for cute animal stuff! Bunny Hoods FTW!

Have a great rest of the week!

Updates on Sites

Hey guys! Since I just finished my new artist Facebook page over the past week, (facebook.com/designsbykaijalea) I thought I would refresh my other online sites too! Now I feel so much more organized and ready to go for the new year…

Here’s my fun, inspiring, random Tumblr Page:

And then, of course, my good ol’ Twitter Page, ready for some new tweets: http://twitter.com/hiyakaija

Finally, there is my Etsy Shop! Please let me know what kinds of things you would like to see listed in there – I would LOVE your input to make it all the cooler:) http://www.etsy.com/shop/kaijalea

Have a very happy Wednesday and hopefully I will have a REAL blog post for you soon! (Probably later in the day, actually…)

2012, here goes nothin’…

Well, hello, and happy new year’s eve, already!! I’m so excited for 2012 to start, you don’t even know… It’s a fantastic excuse to start fresh with creative and personal goals that I sort of got sidetracked from , try new things, get a little more excitement in my life, and end my 20′s with gusto!:) (Yes, I am turning 29 in less than a month… eek.) I made a list of 12 things that I want to accomplish creatively this year (12 for 2012, get it?:p), and I really, really, really want to succeed this year. I hope you will join me and make some goals of your own- whether it is one big resolution or 20 little ones – it doesn’t matter. Just DO something:) I hope you are as inspired as I am…

So, here is my official creative goal list – I know it may look a little too ambitious for someone with a full time job and 2 hours commute time every day, but the beauty of this list is that I am not setting a fixed amount for anything that I make (except for the illustrations). I’m taking it one step at a time, and hopefully having my new studio space to work in will eliminate a few of my procrastination excuses this winter, heh heh…:)

The BHAG at the end (my Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is my ongoing dream accomplishment that may seem impossible right now, but I am going to do it, no matter how long it takes me! Yeah!

So, there you have it. My goals. I’m printing this out and framing it so I have to look at it every day… And, I know I have YOU guys to keep me motivated along the way also:)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
